Darkened shadows

I peered down toward the direction of the stale stench of sweat and blood, rising up beneath my nose. I could barely see the dark, shadowy figure lying still against the crumbling, damp wall of the creepy bedroom. I could hardly breath through heaving and wrenching of my sickness, which I was struggling to overcome due to the foul odour frequenting the room.
You would think that I would be used to the stenches, sights and scenes of the crime-infested callouts I attended. Especially since I had been on the job for the last twenty-one years; I was a prime leading detective for the city’s finest homicide squad. But truth was, I was never ready to face the heartbreaking sights that I so frequently laid my eyes upon. Not even after two decades of fine police work.
