The alarm sounded and Alex Johnson opened his eyes to the poster stuck to his ceiling.
It’s morning and you’re awake. Thank God for another chance .
He groaned and only after his mother yelled up the stairs about dumping ice water on his head did he emerge, bleary eyed and generally disgusted with the entire world. And so it begins, he thought pouring toasted O’s into a giant bowl only to find they were out of milk.
“It’s going to have to be a poptart sweetie, I’m late you’re catching a ride with Brittney right?”
He nodded at his mother and watched as she scurried around in her pointed black heels, finally making it out the front door. It took him long enough to sniff a shirt and make sure it didn’t smell too bad and then to pull on his socks before he was standing outside waiting for the girl who used to split his grilled cheese sandwiches on the playground and who now was little miss popularity to come pick him up. The last first day of school ever. “Welcome to senior year,” he muttered to himself.
