Torture and 999 characters

As soon as I found out, I ran.
I ran past his house (if it had even really been his house), past my house, past my tiny town’s tiny market, past the very
outskirts of my entire world.
Finally, I stopped. My feet hurt and my calves ached, but it didn’t matter.
I wouldn’t have called what Evan and I had as love, persay. We were much too different to really be in love. But it was close enough for me. I had thought it was close enough for the both of us.
No, he’s right. It’s not his fault! screamed my head.
But it hurts! Hurt! Hurt! That’s what they do! screamed my heart and my morals back.
Dragons did hurt. It was there jobs. Unlike sphinxes, unicorns, and mermaids, who had set villages and towns, dragons were nomads. For sport, they would go into a to a town to torture and murder all who couldn’t run fast enough. If there was a shortage of game that year, they would also eat their victims.
I shuddered.
No, I thought to myself, I’m never going back to one of them.
