Winter, why?

I sit at my desk with the standard fluorescent lights lying on my forehead like a heavy wet blanket and throughout the day I feel the bags under my eyes getting darker and fuller. Why does London winter always do this to me?

I figure the low light days hang like short roof where you feel the need to duck your head to escape from hitting it. I think this is why people in winter never seem to want to look up, never want to smile and never want to make eye contact. They seem to prefer to live in their own heads.
