An Infinite Problem

“How much do you love me?”he asks her.

“More than anything. You know that.” She looks at him, a little perplexed by the question.

“Yes, but how much? Can you quantify it? Calculate it? You’re the smartest person I ever met. Can you boil it down to a limited amount?”

“Well,” she says, carefully thinking it through. “I suppose… I guess I would have to say that, put that way, love is infinite.”

“Okay,” he says, a smile starting to spread across his face. “Now, theoretically, if you take an infinite thing and divide it into two or more parts, what do you get?”

“Theoretically, you would have two or more infinite things.” She’s curious, wondering where this is going.

“Great! So, since love is infinite, and an infinite thing divided in two results in two infinite things, I was thinking you, me, and your cousin Jenny could…”

He is unconscious before he even realizes he’s been struck.
