You're Gone

You’re the cause for the tear stains down my cheek
the soul that beckoned me into love
the cocky smile that won my heart
the real reason I’m here.

I’m proud of you—

more than you will ever know.

But as I put up a hand to shield from the sun—
I know I’ll miss you.

I’d walk across continents,
swim through seas
just to be beside you.
I would if I could.

A single teardrop runs down my skin
I wipe it away before you’ll notice—
nothing should spoil this for you.
You used to be the one who wiped the tears.

I imagine wrapping my arms around your neck
and the bliss that surged through me.
But when I come to,
you’re gone.
