Missing You

It was really amazing, when you think about it. Amazing that I could feel this way. I didn’t know what it was like to have my insides crumble into dust. Now I do.
Green, as far as I could see. Mossy rocks towering out of the creek, lush emerald plants guarding the water from invaders. A truly beautiful place, but I couldn’t appreciate it.
I was dazed, trapped in senseless thoughts. I missed you so much.
Before the crash, you were someone I would have preferred not to have in my life. With your playful teasing that bordered on drive-you-up-the-wall-crazy and the joking way you tried to slip your arm around me, I’d officially lost it on more than one occasion involving you.
Now I wanted so badly to speak to you that it made a lump in my throat. God, I missed you.
Your best friend James was in the crash that killed you, and he’s alive. “He had it bad for you, Maddy,” were the first words he said to me when he came back to school.
Only now did I realize that I had it bad for you, too. But you’d never know it.
