I look up to see a tall, skinny woman in a pink sequined top and black skinny jeans. She has trendy rectangular glasses and bottle red hair.
“I’m Danny Stint,” she says holding her hand out for me to shake. “I’m doing a piece on… rising celebrities and was wondering what you could tell me about Kai Stevens.”
Something about her name strikes me as familiar but I can’t pin it.
“A lot,” I answer.
“Great.” She smiles through her teeth like a lion about to strike. “Is there somewhere more private where we can speak?” she asks.
“Yeah, the dressing room should be empty.” The dressing room is a mess of costumes, shoes, and makeup. There’s the classic mirror with lights along the border. I turn away from my reflection.
“Shouldn’t you be looking for her publicist?” I ask.
“That’s not necessary,” she says, closing the door. “I’d like to get some real answers. Now how close are you to Kai?”
“Extremely close,” I smile. “I could tell you whatever you want to know.” And so much more. “But can we make this anonymous?”
