Ficlets

Prey Not On Family

I ran, the hunters and the sound got closer and closer, I was running away and it was my own back yard. I could not risk getting caught; my family was depending on me to be their protector.

I smelled the sweat of them that was chasing me, I saw the cliffs I so often visited, and I ran to them.

Voices were closing in on me, the brush of jungle was thick, I knew the way I lived here forever.

If only I could make it back to my family I would be safe. I was close and they knew it. They surrounded me, I laid low within the cliffs until they passed by.

I heard my brothers and sisters calling my name, once the hunters passed by I called out to them. They found me and I was safe. We laid and waited until the hunters returned.

The brush moved and so did we, with a sound of anger we rushed them that hunted me, and they were no more.
