Meet Sledge

He knelt on his large hammer as though it were a short crutch, panting to regain his breath. He stood in the center of one of the mall’s numerous and gargantuan wings, with nothing alive (or dead for that luxurious matter) in sight. The entrance he had taken from the underground parking lot was now beautifully fused with the remains of a semi-4×4 to make an impassable fortress of ruble and metal… which was still on fire the last time he saw it. At the worst, ‘THEY’ would take several hours to get through, that is if any were left from the initial blast. Though there were four stories of shops all around him, the only sound was that of the mall speakers’ elevator music; a very eerie feeling swept through his sweet soaked body.

He lifted himself, after a moment of rest, and walked out into the connecting hallway. He was getting tired again, but something inside him said to keep moving. “Keep searching,” his mind droned, as he shuffled his feet…
