The Sentence

April and Toni sit in the courtroom. It is the sentencing hearing. They have been waiting for this day, for a long time. Often times they would dream about it.

April and Toni are seated in the rear of the courthouse.
They did not want Mark to know they are present. It is hard enough being in the same room with him, much less interact with him.

The judge begins the hearing. She faces Mark and gives him eye contact.

“Yesterday, Mark you were found guilty of domestic violence and child endangerment. How do you plead?” The judge inquired. Mark stood up and faced the judge. He lowered his head and uttered his plea. “Guilty” He answered. With his shoulders hunched forward. And his head down reverently.

“You may be seated” The judge spoke.

Mark was seated, again looking straight ahead at the judge. Prepared to learn his fate.

“I sentence you Mark, to ten years in a minimum security prison. Parole in ten for good behavior. I also would like you, go through family therapy. For one year.
