American Dream

Tell me what my friends now mean
When they say “the American dream”
Is a set life, a set schedule,
Having to follow every rule
From here to San Fransico
Everywhere you could possibly go
You can only do a few things
That’s not the American dream

The American dream is supposed to bring hope
Not tether us down with laws as a rope
Not tell us what we can and can’t do
Aren’t we supposed to be free?
This doesn’t seem like freedom to me…
This is not the American dream.

yeah i kinda know what you meant when you said it was like mine. Only diffrence I see is that mine has to do with the trend in pop culture and the economic effects on society. But very nicely written none the less.

  • from Stovohobo:

I thought it was very nice, and true.

  • from Kermitgorf:

Ah yes the Bush years have made cynics of even the young… great poem apt for our times. bravo.
