Their First Exchange

As I stood there waiting I felt as though the world was critiquing my naked body like I was a work of Michelangelo. A stone cold David eagerly anticipating the response of the fair maiden across the way.

Hushed whispers floated in the air, followed by quiet giggles. Voices of two women I was positive. This of course sent another blush to my face as I remembered her previous remark.

“I’m sorry, senhor, but I didn’t understand a word you just said,” she hollered back.

The lady was fluent in English and Portuguese but lacked the intricate understanding of my native tongue. So I clarified, “I was merely beseeching your forgiveness for I did not know others had been listening.”

More laughter ensued as I tried to envision what these delicate creatures must look like. What they must see when they look across at my face. I rubbed my hand across the course growth of my beard. Maybe I should ask John to help me shave.

“I listen to your music as often as I can,” another voice chimed. A voice that matched the hums.
