Ficlets

At least for a moment, the Hawk cares...

Is the hawk like a human? He is a cold, merciless killer. He has no choice. His choice, to live, or let live. He has evolved into a efficient, beautiful assassin. He needed to, to stay alive.
Are we in the same conundrum though?
We have evolved into hardened creatures, ignoring everything that might prevent our expansion. Although we don’t look to expand to live, we expand for happiness. Is this happiness worth killing for? Are we as justified as the hawk, gliding down to catch the unprotected mouse, killing because it allows the endorphins to make us “feel” special. The mouse, for a short moment meant the world to the hawk. The land we strip never meant anything to us. An externality.
We never have been very good at understanding value.
