Actually, Never Would Be a Better Time

I threw my trunk onto the bed and stared at it. I needed to finally unpack it and this was as good a time as any. ‘Actually, never would be a better time,’ a pessimistic voice came from the back of my mind and I tried to beat it off.

It had been two weeks since I came back from that cruise and my trunk was still unopened. I unzipped it slowly and flipped the top open.

I laughed: the first thing I found was the tiki mask Vince and I had bought. There was my broken bathing suit! The pool really had a show that night! There were out tickets. I pulled out my clothes and my snowglobe from Alaska fell out. I searched through a bunch of other odds and ends and came upon a small velvet lined box.

My sight grew blurry as the tears came.
