Nouvelle Bardot

Nicknames are a sometimes a shortened version of our names. But sometimes they’re more. They might even define us. What is your view on nicknames?
Answer:
Nicknames
are ultimately,
like playing
an extra part of ourselves
in the theatre
of our life.
Like making
an extra
little piece
of ourselves
we may only use
once in awhile,
or all the time.

It’s easy,
isn’t it,
to don a new name,
a new personality?
You can do that
with a nickname.
By shortening your name
in a certain situation,
you could be
a more bubbly person,
or a darker,
more cynical
copy of yourself.

In the end,
aren’t names just labels?

They can brand us.
Some nicknames
can be stereotypical.
Some
can give a little peek
into someone’s
personality,
or
they can even
be a little piece
of sentiment
we wear
on our shoulders.

It all depends on the wearer.
