Scared

“Daddy, don’t leave me! I don’t want to be alone!” the boy sobbed, clinging to his father’s arm. I cleared my throat, hoping he’d remember me. “Oh, sorry. You must be Mrs. Michaels.” “Yes,” I murmured, his eyes were blank; there was no recognition present. “As you can see, Brady here is having some issues with coming to a new school. “Oh, it’s not uncommon,” I said, inching closer to him and his SON . I still was in shock.
“Sweetie, I’m Mrs. Michaels. You can totally trust me, I know what it’s like to be alone,” I looked at Seth again and still, no recognition. “But the kids in my class are some of the nicest you will ever meet. Plus, your father will be back this afternoon to pick you up, and until then, I’ve got a great day planned for us.” He sniffed, but loosened his grip on his father’s arm. “But what if they don’t like me?” he asked, just above a whisper. “Oh, sweetie, they will. I like you! And if they are mean, well, you and I can just be friends. Deal?” He nodded and took my hand. Seth looked at me.
