She's More Important

I drove home and unlocked my apartment door. My girlfriend was lying on the couch, watching whatever on TV.
“Oh! Hey.” She said. “You’re home a little late.”
“Hey, Brooke.” I said. “Sorry, my cell phone was dead and I was out with a friend.”
“S’okay.”
We went and watched the food network for a little while. After about an hour I stretched out and sighed.
“S’getting late, and I got to get to work early again.” I said. “Lets head over to bed.”
I heard Brooke’s dark hair brush against the couch cushions as she nodded.
We walked into our room, me having a hand wrapped around her waist, pulling her to my side.
We hopped into bed. I wanted to sleep, but she’s just more important sometimes.
“How is it at the hospital?” I asked, turning over towards her.
“Good. Slow day, not a lot of sick people today, not a lot to do for a nurse.” She said quietly.
“Surprise, surprise.” I smiled.
I heard her chuckle a bit and move over towards me. I fell asleep with an arm laid across her back.
