The Changing Season

Jeremy woke up the next day earlier than usual, because Jay poked his head and hands until Jeremy got out of bed. Jay was out eating worms as Jeremy sat at the old kitchen table, he had a cup of water for once. Usually, he didn’t drink anything for weeks, but today was an exception. Today, Jeremy celebrated the true friendship of he and Jay. Jay swooped in and landed on the table. “If only I could eat worms, too,” Jeremy looked at Jay.
He remembered one time when he did eat a worm, in Kindergarten. He remembered when he choked it down and had to go to the nurse to make sure he was o.k. Jeremy finished the last of his water, and sat the glass next to the sink. He looked out the window that was in the kitchen and noticed the changing colors of autumn. He couldn’t believe how it was summer a few days ago. Jeremy looked at Jay, not believing that he wasn’t off flying south for the coming winter. Jay looked back at him. I won’t leave. I’ll stay here even if the temperature goes below freezing. Jay thought.
