A Different Room

The ride home is a blur. I don’t remember it.

He stops his car in front of my house and walks around to my door and opens it trying to lift me out of the car. I stop him.

“I can walk.”, I say with the tone of depression.

He holds out his hand and I grab it.

“Are you sure?”

I stumble on the sidewalk. Brian catches me.

“Let me help you.”

I nod. I’m back in the air leaning against his chest. My parents are sleeping. He knows where the spare is and opens the door. In seconds, I’m laying on my bed. He pulls the covers on top of me.

“I’m so sorry Maddie.”

A silent tear falls from my face. It the first tear I’ve cried.

“Will you stay here with me?”, I say on the edge of crying.

“Of course.”
