End of the Drought Pt. 3

I was with the group that found the first. We were camped at a dome, one of the smaller ones (Not that we knew it at the time, for all we knew this was the only one. Radio and satellite communications had gone down as the rain had started, a convenient coincidence.) We weren’t officially organized or anything, just concerned citizens. A few scientists, technical people, but mainly just curious locals. I was one of the latter, with nothing better to do with my farm destroyed, my family halfway around the planet, living with relatives. Anyway, one of us, a doctor from a nearby town, drove up in a hurry. Apparently he’d found something. Everyone gathered around the back of his truck, trying to get a glimpse. There it was, in all it’s glory – well, all it really looked like was a dead squid, but it was something. That’s when it started sparking and beeping, and after a quick discussion, it was decided that we would dissect it, in the name of science. Really, to satisfy our curiosity, but what did it matter?
