The Trip

I remember like it was yesterday, the absolutely normal day at school when Mom came and picked me up early.
“Are you sure it’s ok with Mrs. Jenkins?” I asked her.
“Yes, of course. If I come in to pick you up, it’s perfectly alright” she replied, leading me out to the car by my hand, like a child. I didn’t like it, but something told me I shouldn’t try to break free from her grip. At the car, she turned to face me and grasped my other hand as well.
“We’re going on a trip to Grandma’s” she said with a smile painted on her face.
“Really? Is Daddy coming too? And Georgia?” I asked excitedly.
“No, just you, me and your sister. Georgia had to go home. And Daddy can’t take off work. It’ll be fun though, I promise.” I felt like my mother was lying to me, but I couldn’t be quite sure which statement was the lie.
