Luck Be A Lady Tonight

The bus came whistling around the corner and I saw my chance for escape. I gave Dylan a quick smile “Can we talk about this later? That’s my bus!”

Dylan did his best Danny-Zuko-at-the-pep-rally impersonation. “Whatever.”

And then I was free. I sat at the back of the bus as the driver took wild corners, and texted Charlie. Can I come over?

Half an hour later, I was banging through Charlie’s kitchen door. “Hello?” I yelled out. The kitchen smelled like baking. “In here,” Charlie yelled back and our little game of Marco Polo led me to the living room where Charlie and his brother, Max, were glued to a shoot ‘em up PlayStation game. There was a plate of warm brownies resting seductively on the table.

“What happened?” Charlie’s eyes never left the screen. I grabbed a brownie and slumped into an armchair. “Dylan cornered me at the bus stop. He was being all sensitive… man I wanted to slap him so bad”
“So why didn’t you?”
“Because… I’m a lady”

Charlie and Max snorted in unison.
