This one's from real life. No, really.

I loved her, briefly. I couldn’t imagine not loving her. And when I asked her out, and she said yes, I couldn’t remember the last time I’d been so happy.

Three glorious days, that lasted. Then it all came crashing down around me. I learned (secondhand) that she and her ex were back together … from what I can tell, it’d probably happened before I even asked.

She thought maybe we could still “go out as friends” (her words, not mine), and even after she led me on, I was dumb enough to think maybe she meant it, until I actually acted on that idea. The response I got was one of the friendlier ways I’ve ever been told “go fuck yourself,” I’ll grant her that. Doesn’t change the message, though.

We had a pretty damn good friendship for awhile, until she managed to blow it up. I’m sure I share some of the responsibility; after all, I’m the one who asked in the first place. Still, it kills me the way she treated me. We’ve gone from friends to not speaking in the space of three months.
