"This Is Just To Say..." [The Apology Challenge]

NPR ran a program today about the William Carlos Williams poem, “This Is Just To Say,” and had people reading their own version of a “This Is Just To Say” poem. I thought it would make a pretty neat challenge, and as this very ficlet also happens to be my 400th, I thought it would be a great way to commemorate that, too.

So here’s your challenge. Take the title and make it the first line of your ficlet. Your ficlet must be written in the form of an apology. Whether the apology is sincere or not is up to you. I will also leave the genre open to whatever you decide. It doesn’t have to be a poem – it can be a play, a story, whatever. Be creative! I look forward to your entries.

I will judge on May 1st. Below I have posted the poem by William Carlos Williams for your inspiration and enjoyment.

I have eaten

the plums

that were in

the icebox

and which

you were probably

saving

for breakfast

Forgive me

they were delicious

so sweet

and so cold
