Semantics

“Your world is about to end.”

He spun around, startled by the stranger who seemed to just appear out of no where. “What?”

“Your world is about to end,” she said again. She looked at him. It was a look that was part amusement, part anticipation, part… Part something he couldn’t quite place.

He laughed, nervously. “Okay. Sure. Whatever you say, lady.”

She smiled. “You don’t believe me, do you?” Her tone phrased it as a question, but the look in her eyes made it a statement.

“Lady, I don’t even know you.” He turned away from her. Creepy bitch, he thought.

“Oh, I know you,” she said. “I’ve watched you for some time, now.”

He turned back, slowly. “Excuse me?”

“I’ve watched you. At school. Football practise. Dates. I know all about you.”

“You’re nuts, lady.” He backed away, slowly. “Because you stalked me, you think the world’s gonna end?”

“Oh, no,” she laughed. “Semantics. I never said the world was going to end.”

Smiling sweetly, she plunged a knife into his chest. “I just said your world…”
