Land of Confusion: Codename Exodus

Eve changed her ringtone to Freak on a Leash before sliding her phone back into it’s purple camo protective case. The conversation had turned to the mundane after Isaac dropped Cobain Staley bomb. He knew how paranoid she was when it came to talking about the cats they chased (conspiracy theories for non- theorists) especially UFO ’s or “uffas.”

Taking a deep cleansing breath, she decided the six a.m. alarm was too much to take this early. (Or late, whichever her perspective was at this point.) Flipping the switch off, her eyes wandered to her locked filing cabinet. She swore under her breath. Her keys dangled from the hook, daring her to take them down.

The light of the sun peeking over the horizon slipped through the cracks in the blinds tiptoing gently over the crevaces in the metal cut of the key shaft making it twinkle as if winking. The tease absolutely unbearable to her exhausted brain.

“Fine,” Eve growled through gritted teeth. “Shower first. Couple of hours of sleep. Then I’ll have a look.”
