The Remnants of Childhood

Later that night, Rachel was in her room, with the door locked. There was little to no chance of anyone actually trying to come talk to her, but she still felt safer with it locked.

Spread across her bed were all the remnants of what little childhood she had, as well as some clothes, and the neccessities; iPod, lip gloss, the little money she had, and, of course, her dad’s jacket. Really, it was the only thing left of her dad…everything else was long gone, burned by her mother in a fit of rage when she was only a baby. This one thing was left because her mom knew she’d want something of her dad’s later. It was possibly the only kind thing her mom had ever done for her.

Everything else was already stored in her duffel bag. She knew not to pack too much.No one knew how much she’s be moving around. All that was left to do was to pack up the remaining things, and sneak away. That shouldn’t be too hard to do, since her mom would be passed out by 10, and Maura never slept in her own bed anymore.
