The real My Space

He sees one of his ficlets have made it big, over a thousand reads, it’s on the Most Popular list. He begins to wonder why, why this one? It’s part of a series, and it’s one basically in the middle of the series. Maybe the tags, he checks what he used for tags, nothing special. He doesn’t care, he begins to read the comments. They like it, they like me. I need to write more. I need to contact these people and keep them reading. Oh what a feeling! I made these people laugh, they’re connecting with my characters. I can’t get enough. Wait someone is coming. I can’t let real people know what I’m doing, they’ll make fun of me, they’ll say something negative. I’ll be back when everyone is gone. X out.

Perfect description of the whole feeling. Great job – except I can’t ever seem to get anyone to read my mid-series ficlets. And no one cares enough to say anything negative about what I do in my spare time. Mostly they whine about what I don’t do. =)

  • from John Perkins:

@Stovo, you make a good point. I think it would help if part of the inspiration could link to the first ficlet in the series. Making it easier for people to start from the beginning if they show up in the middle and want to read the whole thing. I guess I should post that to the feedback rather than posting it in a comment?
Back on topic. 1,000? I haven’t even hit 100 on any of mine. Maybe if Wil Wheaton posted about one on his blog?

lol I can relate to this one. People see me on Ficlets and they have no clue what it is. I’ve had to explain it like 500 times. Me and my friend who is also a ficleteer talk about it at school and everyone just stares at us like we’re crazy. Silly people don’t know what they’re missing.

  • from THX 0477:

Another fun ‘from the addled mind of a ficleteer’ ficlet. Apparently we all have a sort of addictive relationship with the site and the process. Kind of comforting how universal the human experience can be at times, despite how unique we each are.
And though I will willingly tell people what I do here, nobody in my real life has read the things I write with only rare exceptions. Such sweet safety in anonymity.

  • from Punkin:

Ficlets are addicting. Its nice to be able read and write about such a large variety of topics.

  • from Nissakit:

I can completely relate to this character, many people don’t know what they are missing by not being on this site. And 1000 comments!? Whoa!! The most I have ever had is like 5! Great job!

  • from Fantasy:

i can relate to this. great job!

  • from Bartimaeus:
