Letters to Lauren ~Letter 1~

Dear Lauren, April, 12, 1943
Down here in Maryland it’s pretty rainy. As they say April showers bring May flowers! All I’ve been doing is sitting inside and helping Grandmother with the cats. Although it is quite fun playing with Mr. Whiskers, Mouser and Rodrick (the boy next door) I miss Connecticut so very much. I will return when mother can take care of me. If she will ever be able to take care of me again. Ever since my Father left, she’s let herself go. I can’t return until she puts herself together again. I miss you, too, so very much. I also miss Megan (our best friend, remember?). You are lucky to have her. The kids down here in MD don’t like me that much. Except Rodrick who’s very nice. He gave me a socks for my tenth birthday. I would of liked a china tea set better, but the thought is what counts, right? It was very sad to have to celebrate my tenth birthday without you, and my mother. I finally have two digits in my age! Write back soon!

Sincerely,
Lucy
