Rachel stared at the window, feeling as though she could see the whole world. It all spread before her, like a quilt settling softly on a bed.”Hey, Rach, are you ok?” Chris asked, laughing a bit to himself.

She had completely forgotten about him until he spoke. “Um…”she said, tearing herself back from her revery.
“Yeah…Yeah, I’m fine…It’s just so…big…and so…so….”

“So overwhelming?” he asked gently, his eyes softening.

“Yeah…I guess that’s it,” she replied softly, staring into his eyes again. It felt like there were beams of light connecting them. She couldn’t look away.

“Well,” he said, clearing his throat and glancing away, tearing their connection into pieces. “I-I’m sure you’ll get used to it. I know I have. Six months and you’ll know this place like the back of your hand…just give it some time.”

“Yeah,” she said, reassuring herself as much as him. “I’m sure it’ll all work out. I’m not worried.”

But even she caught the uncertainty in her voice.
