People Like You

So the first thing I did, after sleeping until eight the next day, was head to the library. I checked out multiple books on nutrition, exercise, and weight loss. I thought about consulting with the university’s health clinic, but decided I would save that as a last resort, if I really couldn’t lose at all.
After leaving the library, I headed to the school’s gym, a place I hadn’t visited since orientation. I entered nervously, knowing that I didn’t belong. I walked up to the reception rather apprehensively.

“Um hi…I was wondering how much a membership costs?â€? I gave the lady behind the counter an embarrassed grin.

“Well since it’s January, we always give a 20% discount to new members. A lot of people like you come in after New Years.â€? She smiled and handed me some forms to fill out.

As I was scribbling down the information, all I could think was, “People like me? What the hell is that supposed to mean?â€?
