Irrational? Phobias.

Session 1: Ted Miller w/ Dr. Kenton; concerning phobias.
4:30 P.M., June 12

“So Ted, do you think you could tell me what you are afraid of?” Dr. Kenton looks at her patient, a man, about 25 years old, who sits nervously in his chair.

“Well…spiders, sharp objects, cracks in sidewalks, grocery carts, the IRS , guns, bombs, the radio, frogs, my priest, tall bulidings, germs, dairy products, aliens, murderers, bulldozers, spoons, banana peels, pools, puddles, lightning, snow, staplers, candles, lighters, wild animals, my car, stop lights, small children…”He pauses for a breath and keeps going. “The scary librarian, my credit card, electronics, telemarketers, electric outlets, sugar, the gym…And don’t even get me started on government conspiracies.”

The therapist sits there, eyebrows raised. “Well I see we have a lot to work on. Do you think any of your fears might be slightly irrational?”

“Of course not! And do you think you could stop clicking your pen like that? I’m afraid it might explode.”
