The Spoon Speech

“You’re really getting on my nerves,” I murmured, sighing a bit. “And besides, couldn’t you pick something more original than spoons?”

Lin puffed up her cheeks, looking quite irritated. “Spoons, I’ll have you know, are quite original, and they serve me well.”

I groaned inwardly. Not another speech on the sharpness and loveliness of spoons. Now I know why she used to talk about them all the time.

Cricket gave us both an ‘are you crazy and off your rocker?!’ look. I couldn’t blame him.

“This model, the Campbell Soup Spoon 2030, is extremely good for pinning down runaways because of it’s large head – when the user throws it, the weight at the tip of the spoon hurls it toward the target…”

I made a face, and moved closer to Cricket. How could someone so intelligent be absorbed in the science of…spoons?

Ah, well. To each his own.

Her eyes were closed, so again, I hoped to creep out unnoticed.

Knowing this looked terribly wrong, I cut Cricket down and tried to inch away.
