Managing III

“I think human resources would have a problem with that.”
That was true. I didn’t care.
“I’ll quit. I don’t care.”
“You can’t quit. We’ll have to slip the schedule if you go. You know we can’t possibly replace you with anyone half as good.”
You don’t know how good I can be.
“Your office has a lock. We can do more than kiss.”
Dan backed away. Why doesn’t he want me?
“You know that’s not a good idea.”
The look in his eyes told me not to push it. He never backs down. Is that why I want him to so much? To break his own standards, just for me?
I felt the color rise in my cheeks, and tiny beads of sweat struggle to force themselves through my foundation.
“I… I’m sorry. You’re right. It’s probably not worth either of our jobs.”
Dan nodded. “Are you still on schedule?”
“Yeah, mostly. I might be in late a couple of nights this week, though.” Maybe whether I need to or not. “Don’t worry. The project won’t be late because of me.”
“Better not be, or I’ll have your ass.”
Is that a promise?
