The Manhatten Project

Sometimes people ask me why I came here. They ask, why did you choose to move all the way to New York City?

And the first thing, the first answer that immediately dances its way into my mind is Woody Allen. Yeah, blame it on him and that that film Manhatten.

No city has looked greater in black and white.

I’m sure I could blame a million other things to why I set my heart of leaving San Francisco and coming here fresh faced, with a camera bag slung over my shoulder.

But, I’m terrible at first impressions. So, for the sake of my story let’s start over.

My name is Zadie. Zadie Nathalia Ocean, if we’re going to get real formal. People say I have a weird name, but its the real deal. My dad was really into Zadie Smith at the time of my birth, so it was almost inevitable.

He’s a photographer. So, I think I can add him to the list of reasons why I’m here. He’s the one that handed me the weapon and set me loose.

Into the unknown.
