Watch the Birdie

Tony let us stay in his shack for the night. I think I was fast asleep long before my head hit the pillow.

The next morning I awoke to find sunlight flooding the room & Cricket making pancakes. Lin was still snoozing in the corner.
“Mornin’ sleepyhead!” he boomed happily. “Hope you like pancakes!”
“Sure do,” I replied.
“What’s all the racket in here?” We turned to see a very rumpled Lin in the doorway. We tried not to crack up.
“Did the bed try to eat you last night?” I asked in jest.
“No; as a matter of fact I was caught in a tornado,” she quipped. Oh, she’s good.
“Alright, you ladies mow down, I gotta go find something.” Cricket scurried from the room. Lin & I looked at each other, curious. She slipped from her chair and soundlessly crossed the room in the direction Cricket had just taken. I followed.
“Dangit,” he was saying. “Where’d that birdie go?...”
“What birdie?” we asked in syncro.
“Why, a badminton birdie!” He had that tell-tell smirk.
Uh-oh; I think I know where this is going…
