“Well, I better get going,” I said, somewhat awkwardly. “And I better get some rest,” Casimir Chrysanthemum agreed. As I turned to leave, he called, “Essie?” “Yeah?” I responded. “I know this may sound cheesy, not to mention totally strange. You know, since I just met you. But perhaps you are a miracle sent by God above, just as the note said.” “Maybe,” I murmured. Then, once again, my instincts took over. I leaned in and pecked Casimir on the cheek. When I realized what I had just done, I was shocked by my boldness. Yet Casimir didn’t seem the least bit upset, offended, or freaked out. “I don’t get kisses very often,” he commented, and that was that. “Good night, Essie,” he said. “Good night, Casimir,” I replied. As I strode out of the room, I took everything in once more. I remember the vanilla candles which were burning in the room, and the tassels on the canopy. I left with the inspiring and uplifting knowledge that this was the start of a beautiful friendship.
