One Last Dance

I would only dance when no one was watching. Through the meadows and the woods, through the fields and the autumn leaves. I would see the most beautiful things people could only dream about. Closing my eyes and spinning about as the wind rushed through my hair, a slow smile crept onto my face. I would spin until I could spin no more and then I would fall onto the ground, laughing, and watching the sky turn around in circles, until it was finally still. As I grew older I would dance less and less until I was finally a mother and felt as if I could dance no more. My youth had gone to my kids and I wished upon every shooting star that they loved to dance as I once did. I still held the passion in my heart but that slowly faded the day my father wrote to me saying he was very ill. I went to him and when I sat on his bed and held his weak and fragile hand he asked me to dance for him one last time. So I danced one more dance for my father to the beat of our joy and memories that will last a lifetime.
