That afternoon, Raine came upstairs to share a cup of cocoa with me.

I gladly obliged.

I was finally going to sate that impossible curiosity of his. My throat felt a lot better. Besides, it had been ages since I had been truly sick, so the flu itself might leave earlier.

“Hey, Raine…”

“Do you ever wonder about what your parents were like when they were young?”

Raine put his mug down, staring at me with sky-blue eyes. “Where did you pull that question out from?”

I rolled my eyes. “Can’t you just answer normally?”

He gave me a grudging look, but continued anyway. “Can’t say I have…why do you ask?”

“I recently…um…I recently found out something about myself,” I began, rubbing the back of my neck nervously. “I’m not really sure you’d like to know about it.”

Raine arched an eyebrow at me and put the mug to his lips to drink again. “Try me.”

Very well, tough guy.

“What if I told you we could be legally related?”

And then I was drenched in cocoa.

Oh, joy.
