Swing away

“What’s wrong?” Ben asked, pushing her once more.

“Nothing,” was her only reply.

“Come on, something has to be wrong for you to give me such short answers.”

He pushed the swing again and suddenly, it came back down without her on it. Ben laughed and called her name, Elizabeth, to the tree. He figured she had swung onto one of the branches and decided to hide up there.

Elizabeth opened her eyes and realized she was in a forest full of maple and oak trees. Their branches hung down, hiding the sky and only allowing pieces of sunlight to reach down and grace her skin. Would anyone remember her? Would they worry that she had gone? Where was she?

“What’s wrong?” a distant voice asked.

“Nothing,” was her only reply.
