“Be careful ok?” pleaded Mom as she tried to persuade Kelly from driving out to the ridge for a party with her friends. “Mom don’t worry Im 18 and I can take care of myself, honestly mom sometimes you worry too much.” and with that Mom heard a click as her only daughter Kelly hung up the phone and headed out to the Ridge.
The night air swept her long brown hair back as the convertible cruised swiftly around the bend in the road climbing to the party spot. The lights and sounds of the party of friends waiting for her drifted through her mind as she came upon the stop light just before the turn off to the Ridge. Kelly slowed to let the light change from red to green. Pulling forward into the intersection, Kelly looked both ways but couldn’t see the car hurtling towards her at break-neck speeds. In short, Kelly never made it to the party. She died that night in a fatal car accident. Kelly had been safe and was careful just as mom asked… But the drunk driver who hit her wasn’t..
