Eva and Princess

Eva loved the crazy look on her cat’s face whenever she was attacking something. Something about it was so child-like, and full of near delirious joy. Her prey at the moment was a catnip mouse.
Eva couldn’t enjoy the cat without thinking about him. She couldn’t believe he was gone, 10 years, and she had little to show for it except the cat, Princess. He had given her Princess the first Christmas after he had moved in. He hadn’t had much money back then, so he thought a lively adorable gray tiger kitten would make up for the lack of more expensive gifts. It worked. Soon after that he had started moving up in the company and Christmases after that were full of lavish gifts, though Eva appreciated the simplicity of a kitten much more.
It was the money that had been his downfall. That was why he was gone. Sure he’d changed after he moved up the proverbial ladder (which she had her suspicions about how he’d pulled that off so quickly), but in the end it was just your average greed. One day he’d simply vanished.
