It Can't Get Any Worse

A light evening breeze smelling faintly of coffee blew my dirty hair into my face. I so badly wanted to brush it away but some other more controlling part of me would not lift either of my hands from the rough pavement to do so. My legs were stretched out and everything felt cramped. Nothing compared to this emtpiness inside of me, though.

And then, it started to rain. A cool mist that however light it appeared, got me soaking wet in a matter of minutes. I closed my eyes and let my head tilt up to soak in the change of events. I felt water droplets land on each and every part of my face. It felt wonderously good. My face still facing the darkening sky, I let everything be washed away, and the emptiness, the gaping hole in my heart be filled… with nothing more beautiful than rain.
