At the Party

Luckily, he was there when I arrived at the party. If he wasn’t, I might have turned around and walked out. I didn’t like parties, and would be at home watching a movie if he hadn’t begged me to go until I gave in.

Max was my friend. My only friend, actually. This was probably because I didn’t go to parties.

We were the practically exact opposites, Max and I. It’s amazing that we were even friends. I guess it’s true, that opposites attract. Where Max is a total social butterfly, I prefer to avoid people. Where Max is great at just about every sport, I am a complete and total klutz. Where Max is a tall, dark haired and eyed boy who girls all love, I’m a short, blonde haired, pale blue eyed girl who guys don’t even notice.

But somehow we were the best of friends. As soon as I walked in Max’s face broke into that great smile of his and he waved, hurrying over. “I wasn’t sure you’d come!” he said.

“Yeah, me neither. Don’t rub it in,” I grumbled.
