The Cat Who Wanted to Play Cards

We were sitting on the floor in the living room playing cards, because back then we had nothing better to do than find creative ways to waste time. It was difficult because my cat enjoys our company and kept stepping all over the cards.

He re-arranged his cards for the fifteenth time. The cat promptly sat on them.

“Can you do something about her?” he asked me angrily, glaring at the cat. She stared back at him, eyes round and playful.

“Mmrow!” she said, tail swiping back and forth, further ruining our efforts. Her head tilted to one side.

I was trying not to laugh.

“She just wants a bit of fun.”

“Well she should have her fun not sitting on the cards!”

He picked her up and plopped her on the couch. Then he sat down and fixed the cards, which were so discombobulated that he no longer remembered what went where.

That cat flounced herself off of the couch and began batting at the discard pile with her paw.

He threw his cards on the floor.

“I give up,” he said. “She wins.”
