Ficlets

You've Got To Be Kidding.

“If Serina sits near me, I’m commiting suicide.” I say, only 3/4 joking, to Brit and Tasha.

“Now everybody come to the front so I can tell you your assigned seats.” says my chorus teacher, Mrs. Treplinds.

As she names off the first row, I try to think of Serina’s last name to see if she’ll be anywhere near me. It starts with an O and Heranta is nowhere near that. I think, reassuring myself that I’m clear of her.

“Third row, starting from the left, Lauren Heranta, Derin Montim, Katrina Sahink..” talk/yells Mrs. Treplinds. Tasha gives me a sad oh-no-we’re-not-sitting-together look as I head towards my seat. Brit, on the other hand, gave me an excited ehmagaud-you’re-sitting-right-behind-me look as she waved me over to my seat.

“Can you believe that we already have some homework on our third day?!” Brit asked.

“I know right!” I say, but then I hear something I really didn’t want to hear: “Okay fourth row, starting from the left, Serina Olind, Patrick Kanith..

“Got a gun?”
