Showdown

Haas could feel the near noon sun scorching on his back. He adjusted the revolver at his hip, and shifted his stance. Daisy was standing at the banister in front of the saloon whimpering softly. He gave a confident smirk to soothe her. Jack strode onto the other end of the dusty road. The draw would soon begin.

“Please boys, I can’t choose!” Daisy shouted, “Don’t fight over me, you’ll both end up dead!” Jack looked over at her calmly. “Now, now Miss Daisy matters like this can only be settled in bullets.”

The time for talking had apparently ended, because Jack turned back to Haas and positioned his hands over his guns. They both looked each other square in the eyes, and awaited the town clock to ring noon. A silence fell over the street, followed by a loud chime. Shortly after, two gunshots echoed out…

Both men fell over dead. Daisy tucked two smoking pistols under her dress. “Jack was right, matters like this can only be settled in bullets.” she said as she slowly walked back into the saloon.
