Blind, Part Two

I squinted as hard as I could, but my vision could not pierce the darkness in front of me. I took a step forward, one hand flailing in front of me, grasping nothing but thin air, the other holding the lighter. I took a second step, and I knew I would soon reach my destination, the kitchen counter which also houses the stove, another thing of which I should be wary. We had recently had family over for dinner, so the stove may still be hot. Finally, my hand touched the counter. Fortunately, not the stove section.

I placed the lighter down in a safe position, and turned to my left, although I couldn’t be sure of the exact angle. I took a step and stubbed my toe on the counter. I then righted myself and proceeded to walk, slowly, out of the kitchen, into the living room, and towards the faint glow of another candle on my father’s desk.

I have learned that you needn’t exit your home to have interesting, thought provoking, and educational adventures. You simply need a power outage.
