A Good Boyfriend

He found me sobbing on a huge rock. It was only a couple blocks away from my house. Today it wasn’t as far as I wanted to be, just barely enough.
The rock was ancient and practically a piece of art. Graffiti covered every inch of it. The creators were probably grown and famous artists by now. It wasn’t very comfortable, never was, to sit on. Until Tom arrived.
He clambered up to sit shoulder to shoulder with me.
I couldn’t stop long enough to get out any words. They all seemed to get stuck in my throat. I felt pathetic.
Tom picked me up and set me on his lap, wrapping his arms protectively around me. He then gently pressed his cheek against mine and whispered, “I’m here, Ashley.”
I tried to nod, that yes, I knew, and yes, I loved him, but I don’t think he could tell anyways. My body was shaking uncontrollably.
We sat there for a long time. He held me together, just like he had been for so long. Only this time, he was the super glue. And even at that I knew I was trying his patience.
